James O’Callaghan, recipient of the Museond Prize
Montreal, May 14, 2026 — We are pleased to announce that composer James O'Callaghan has been selected as the recipient of the very first Museond Prize for Creativity in Mixed Music.
As part of this distinction, he will create a new 14‑minute electroacoustic work for the Quasar saxophone quartet. This new piece will be premiered during La Semaine du Neuf in March 2027.
The selection was made by a jury composed of Bekah Simms, Gordon Fitzell, Marie-Chantal Leclair, Jean-Marc Bouchard, An Laurence Higgins, Charles-Éric Fontaine, and Jeffrey Stonehouse.
Initiated by patron John Fairbrother, founder of the Museond Fund, this annual prize aims to support the creation of new works for acoustic instruments and electronic devices, while fostering the development of mixed music and contemporary creation.
