Une mécanique des rêves

(
1996
)
Composer: Bernard Falaise
for saxophone quartet

Albert is fascinated by his dreams. More precisely, by the form of his dreams: the surreal sounds and colours, the sudden changes of focus, the strange perspectives, the unexpected shifts of time and place. How does it work? Albert would like to visit the corridors of his dreams.
• 1) The ants: the room where Albert is staying is invaded by columns of small ants. He crushes them.
• 2) The fall: the window of the 8th floor expels Albert. He floats tranquilly in space, slowing down as he falls.
• 3) Red: a huge, red chasm, made of sand. Strong light, blood, a siren shrieks. Albert runs away.

Commissioned by Quasar, The Mechanics of Dreams was first performed in 1996 at the Festival des musiques de créations in Jonquière.
