Born in Tallinn, Estonia, Ülo Krigul studied composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and completed his training in Vienna. He composes for large orchestras, theatre and cinema, and creates sound installations (electroacoustic). In addition to being a composer, he is a musician and arranger for jazz and blues ensembles and collaborates with experimental music groups. His works have been premiered in several new music festivals in Estonia and performed in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Canada and Portugal. In 2007, he won the First Prize at the International Tribune of Composers in Paris, in the category of composers under 30. His orchestral work JenZeits won him the European Composers Award at the 2005 young.euro.classic festival in Berlin.
