Philipp C. Mayer

Philipp C. Mayer is a composer and improvisational musician. He studied composition with Isabel Mundry at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (HMTM), with Stefano Gervasoni at the CNSM in Paris (as part of an Erasmus exchange in 2015/2016), and with Martin Schüttler and Joanna Bailie at the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart (HMDK). He is currently completing his Konzertexamen with Brigitta Muntendorf at the University of Music and Dance Cologne (HfMT).
Mayer has collaborated with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Trio Abstract, Duo2KW, Quartetto Maurice, Petra Hofmann, and others. His music has been presented at festivals such as the Munich Opera Festival, the Suntory Summer Festival Tokyo, the Munich Biennale, the Evimus Festival Saarbrücken, the Performing Voice Symposium (Bern), the Alte Schmiede in Vienna, and the Scène Nationale d'Orléans.
Since 2022, he has also been active in theater (with productions at Staatstheater Mainz, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Schauspiel Frankfurt) and music theatre. The production “Übergewicht, unwichtig: UNFORM”, for which he produced the music, was invited to the 2024 Berliner Theatertreffen and nominated for the Nestroy Prize in the category "Best Production in the German-speaking World." In 2024, his first full-length opera “Das Reich der Freiheit” for singers, three child soloists, orchestra, and electronics premiered at the Staatstheater Kassel.
Mayer was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) from 2017 to 2021. In 2016, his artistic work was recognized with the Cultural Promotion Award of the Main-Kinzig District.
