Louis-Michel Tougas

Louis-Michel Tougas is a composer and drummer based in Montréal, Québec. He obtained a degree in composition from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, then a scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Foundation allowed him to pursue his Master’s studies in composition and music informatics at the Hochschule für Musik of Stuttgart with Marco Stroppa. He then studied sound recording at McGill University, and obtained a diploma in analysis from the Conservatoire de Montréal. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at McGill University under the supervision of Philippe Leroux, where he conducts research on the interaction of notation, cognition, and perception of rhythm. He is also a teaching assistant in computer-assisted composition and course lecturer in 20th and 21st centuries composition at McGill. His music has been played in many events in Québec, British Columbia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
