Francis Battah

Francis Battah is a Quebec composer living in Montreal. He studied at the Université de Montréal and McGill University. His compositional mentors include Denys Bouliane, Alan Belkin, Denis Gougeon and Ana Sokolović.

His music has been performed by numerous soloists, chamber music ensembles and orchestras, including pianist Philippe Prud’homme, Quatuor Cobalt, Quatuor Bozzini, Quasar, Ensemble Éclat (dir. Charles-Éric Fontaine) and Orchestre de l’Agora (dir. Nicolas Ellis). His music is available on streaming platforms and is published by the Canadian Music Centre, Doberman-Yppan and Le Nouveau Théâtre Musical.

Francis has received several awards, including five different prizes at the Antonin Dvořák International Composition Competition in 2019 and 2023. He was also a winner of the Beethoven Legacy Competition, which led to the performance of his orchestral work Prélude aux paysages urbains by the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
