Ouverture

The relationship between dance and music transcends time. Each project is unique and presents its own challenges. In this case, the fact that we are meeting artists from another part of the world adds to the complexity, not to mention the distance, the number of rehearsal hours, and the language barrier. From the outset, the idea of developing a shared presence of all the performers on stage influenced the form of the piece: a variable geometry allowing for a kind of freedom in creation. It is a sensitive relationship requiring constant dialogue, particularly when both the musical and choreographic forms are "open." It is demanding in such a limited timeframe, even perhaps risky, but it makes our encounter vibrant and tangible because it is different each time. The dialogue is no longer solely between choreographer and composer, on the one hand, and the performers, on the other. Together, we share a creative space where we have a shared responsibility.
