Description
Operatic event for 8 singers and 13 instrumentalists. Michel Gonneville, original idea, general artistic direction, composition of the music; Alain Fournier, libretto and direction; Mario Côté with Catherine Béliveau, scenography and film-videography.
Here, composer Michel Gonneville offers us the chance to discover his latest creation, an operatic performance inspired by the fascinating theme of the origin of violence and murder in human beings through the myth of Cain.
Touching on the role of religious conformism as the driving force behind this murderous violence and its perpetuation, L’hypothèse Caïn features four mythological characters (Eve, her two sons Cain and Abel, and Adah, their sister and Cain's spouse) and a quartet of contemporary archaeologists. From bones and artifacts, these reveal - or imagine - a story of Cain unlike that of the holy books of monotheistic religions ...
